The planting has officially begun. This is such a difference between last year. Last year everything was pushed back several months due to waiting for the trees to be taken down. We were too far into the seasons to start anything that could be started early spring. We grew an assortment of lettuce for the Farm to Table but it didn’t get very large.
We began prepping the old beds from last year by cutting rows in the old black plastic and filled it with the aged compost we got from Becky’s farm. We planted right into it. The seeds we started were two types of lettuce, spinach, carrots and two types of snow peas. After planting right into the compost we covered it with a thin layer of fine sawdust and watered it down. I’m excited to see how the compost will make a difference. Each year we hope to improve the quality of the soil so that the annuals will grow even better and better each year.
Stay tuned to see what happens!
